Toronto Symphony Orchestra\/Augustin Hadelich<\/h3>\n

The Yo-Yo Ma gala on Wednesday is sold out. Your TSO alternative on the weekend is the Italian-German-American violinist Augustin Hadelich as soloist in Sibelius\u2019s momentous concerto for that instrument. Gustavo Gimeno leads a suite from Strauss\u2019s Der Rosenkavalier<\/em> and Ravel\u2019s equally lavish La Valse<\/em>; plus Aeriality<\/em>, a minimalist landscape by the Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. Women\u2019s Musical Club of Toronto\/Quatuor Despax<\/h3>\n

Thursday Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. Walter Hall. $45 (students free)<\/p>\n

Four siblings from Gatineau taught by their father play Haydn (Op. 76 No. 1), Ravel and Schoenberg\u2019s Verkl\u00e4rte Nacht<\/em> (with violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt and cellist Brian Manker). Music Toronto\/Lafayette Quartet<\/h3>\n

Opera in Concert\/Lucio Silla<\/h3>\n

New Music Concerts\/Standing Wave Ensemble<\/h3>\n

Sunday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. St. George by the Grange. $35 (arts workers\/seniors $25; students $10)<\/p>\n

The Vancouver collective Standing Wave visits with works by mid-career composers Bekah Simms, Mari Alice Conrad, James O\u2019Callaghan and Gordon Fitzell. The 20th century classic is an expanded arrangement of Messiaen\u2019s Le Merle Noire<\/em>. Arrive by 7:15 for discussion and 7:45 for the warmup act: Derives I<\/em> by Pierre Boulez performed by musicians from the Glenn Gould School.
