This is a list of amazing concerts we are attending, wishing we could attend, or thinking about attending between Oct. 3 \u2013 9, 2022.<\/p>\n

Canadian Opera Company\/The Flying Dutchman<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Friday Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m. (repeats Sunday Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. & continues 7, 9, 13, 15, 19, 21 & 23). Four Seasons Centre. $44+<\/p>\n

The COC opens a season made mostly of revivals with Christopher Alden\u2019s grim production of The Flying Dutchman<\/em>. Take heart \u2014 the all-import cast includes the Danish bass-baritone Johan Reuter (a fine Wotan in Die Walk\u00fcre<\/em> in 2015) as the Dutchman, the American soprano Marjorie Owens as Senta, the British tenor Christoper Ventris (originally booked for Parsifal<\/em>) as Erik and the German bass Franz-Josef Selig as Daland. Johannes Debus conducts. If you find the ticket prices uncomfortably stellar, consider standing room. Wagner\u2019s most compact opera is reckoned to last 2 hours and 35 minutes, intermission included. More info here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Michael Bridge\/Women\u2019s Musical Club of Toronto<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Thursday Oct. 6, 2022, 1:30 p.m. Walter Hall. $45 (students free)<\/p>\n

The venerable WMCT<\/a>, back in Walter Hall, starts 2022-23 with the offbeat attraction of the young accordionist Michael Bridge with his teacher Joseph Macerollo and a trio of assisting artists (belonging to the Ladom Ensemble). The wide-ranging program includes Bach, Sofia Gubaidulina, Astor Piazzolla, and what is presumably the WMCT premiere of music by Radiohead. More info here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

RCM Orchestra\/Joshua Weilerstein<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Friday Oct. 7, 2022, 8 p.m. Koerner Hall. $26+<\/p>\n

The Royal Conservatory starts its 2022-23 orchestral activities under the American conductor Joshua Weilerstein. Brahms 4 is the big symphony; Yu Kai Sun is the student soloist in Shostakovich\u2019s Violin Concerto No. 1. The program starts with Dinuk Wijeratne\u2019s Juno-winning Pop Songs on Antique Poems<\/em>. You can listen to Weilerstein\u2019s podcast on the Brahms here<\/a>.
