There are site-specific productions that will be free to the public, digital works, and bilingual performances to round out the program.<\/p>\n<p>Their 2021\/22 season included sold-out productions, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2022\/09\/20\/scoop-tapestry-opera-leads-dora-winners-2022-six-trophies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">six recent Dora Mavor Moore Award wins<\/a> for <em>R.U.R. A Torrent of Light: a robot opera<\/em> in partnership with OCAD University, the most for any production.<\/p>\n<p>Tapestry Opera and its Artistic and General Director <strong>Michael Hidetoshi Mori<\/strong> are dedicated to presenting contemporary opera that is relevant to today\u2019s Toronto audiences. He commented in a media release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to present one of our most ambitious seasons yet. Our mainstage world premieres explore the intersection of water, mythology, identity, and transformation, our performances in intimate venues celebrate creation and emerging talent, and our music videos will continue to animate a digital space for a growing digital audience. It\u2019s fantastic to work with such dynamic partners in the city and beyond to realize these projects, and it\u2019s always inspiring to collaborate on new work. The works are culled from the first bilingual Composer-Librettist intensive (LIBLAB bilingue), a partnership with Quebec-based companies Musique 3 Femmes and l\u2019Opera de Montreal.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Concert: Songbook XII<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Venue to be announced, February 10 \u2013 11, 2023<\/em><br \/>\nOpera masters headline this showcase for emerging singers and pianists in an intimate and relaxed setting.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Of the Sea \u2014 a Tapestry Opera &amp; Obsidian Theatre co-production<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em><strong>World Premiere<\/strong>: Composed by Ian Cusson; libretto by Kanika Ambrose; directed by Philip Akin; conducted by Jennifer Tung<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The Bluma Appel Theatre, March 25 \u2013 April 1, 2023<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Of the Sea<\/em> tells the mythical story of Makuka and Binyelum, his daughter, along with other Africans who were thrown overboard during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/aia\/part1\/1p277.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Middle Passage<\/a>. Now, they inhabit underwater kingdoms on the ocean floor.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dragon\u2019s Tale \u2014 a Tapestry Opera &amp; Soundstreams co-production, in partnership with Luminato Festival Toronto and Harbourfront Centre<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em><strong>World Premiere<\/strong>: Composed by Chan Ka Nin; libretto by Mark Brownell; directed by Michael Hidetoshi Mori; conducted by David Fallis<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The Harbourfront Centre\u2019s Concert Stage, June 15 \u2013 19, 2023 <strong>FREE<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nXiao Lian, a young Canadian woman, has a traditionally minded father who is ill. She\u2019s magically transported to pre-empire China, and follows the story of famous poet Qu Yuan, who just happens to look like her father. Chinese traditions and contemporary Canada come together in music, song, and storytelling.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Concert: A Joke Before the Gallows<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Venue and date to be announced<\/em><br \/>\nTom Diamond directs as noted concert pianist Adam Sherkin performs Chopin\u2019s four scherzi, with monologues written by David James Brock in a mixed media event with live performance.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Music Videos: Gould\u2019s Wall and R.U.R. A Torrent of Light<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Online, release to be announced<\/em><br \/>\nThe major World Premieres of Tapestry\u2019s 2021\/22 season are featured in a short video adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for <em>Tapestry Briefs: les Shorts qui chantent<\/em> are on sale to Tapestry members now, and will go on general sale on October 3.
