Composers Analia Llugdar, Alejandra Odgers, and Rebecca Gray, and librettists Nicole O\u2019Bomsawin and Rachel Gray, will create four new Canadian operas which will premiere in 2024.<\/p>\n<h2>About the contest<\/h2>\n<p>The prize was created by a collaboration between Montr\u00e9al\u2019s Musique 3 Femmes (M3F), Ensemble Vocal Arts-Qu\u00e9bec and M\u00e9c\u00e9nat Musica. It\u2019s dedicated to developing the work of emerging female and non-binary Canadian artists who have a track record and potential when it comes to creating new operas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The 2022-23 jury<\/strong>: M3F\u2019s Kristin Hoff and Jennifer Szeto, and guest jurors Luna Pearl Woolf, composer, dramaturg, CEO of Oxingale Music, and Jaap Nico Hamburger, M\u00e9c\u00e9nat Musica Composer-In-Residence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The prize<\/strong> includes: commission funding for new works, mentorship and dramaturgy by opera composer &amp; dramaturg Luna Pearl Woolf, and funding support for a musical workshop.<\/li>\n<li>The prize is awarded to teams of composers and librettists in <strong>three categories<\/strong>: French Language work, work by BIPOC creators (Black, Indigenous or Person of Colour), and English Language work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79367\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79367\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-79367\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/Mendat-musica-winners-2022-2023.jpg\" alt=\"M\u00e9c\u00e9nat Musica Prix 3 Femmes Prize Winners 2022-23: Anal\u00eda Lugdar, Montr\u00e9al\/Argentine; Alejandra Odgers, Montr\u00e9al\/M\u00e9xique &amp; Nicole O\u2019Bomsawin, Odanak, Qu\u00e9bec; Rebecca Gray &amp; Rachel Gray, Ottawa; Dana\u00eb M\u00e9nard-B\u00e9langer &amp; Ma\u00efa M\u00e9nard-B\u00e9langer, Montr\u00e9al (Photos courtesy of the competition)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"360\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79367\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">M\u00e9c\u00e9nat Musica Prix 3 Femmes Prize Winners 2022-23: Anal\u00eda Lugdar, Montr\u00e9al\/Argentine; Alejandra Odgers, Montr\u00e9al\/M\u00e9xique &amp; Nicole O\u2019Bomsawin, Odanak, Qu\u00e9bec; Rebecca Gray &amp; Rachel Gray, Ottawa; Dana\u00eb M\u00e9nard-B\u00e9langer &amp; Ma\u00efa M\u00e9nard-B\u00e9langer, Montr\u00e9al (Photos courtesy of the competition)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>About the winners<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>French Language work<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Analia Llugdar<\/strong>, composer (Montr\u00e9al\/Argentina) Currently based in France, she has composed about 60 pieces for voice, orchestra, chamber music, solo instrument, ballet, opera and mixed music.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Indigenous (BIPOC) work<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alejandra Odgers<\/strong>, composer (Montr\u00e9al\/Mexico) She has composed over 50 works, including two commisisons for the Orch\u00e8stre M\u00e9tropolitan, one conducted by Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nicole O\u2019Bomsawin<\/strong>, librettist (Odanak, Qu\u00e9bec) The Abenaki anthropologist and author is also a dancer who has toured North America.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>English Language work<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rebecca Gray<\/strong>, composer (Ottawa) Soprano, composer, and improviser, she has performed with Pacific Opera Victoria, Esprit Orchestra, Tapestry Opera, Opera Q, and is a member of FAWN chamber creative.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rachel Gray<\/strong>, librettist (Ottawa) An interdisciplinary artist navigating the world with Dyslexia working in drawing, animation, painting, puppetry, podcasting, printmaking, and comics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>French Language work \u2014 Encouragement Prize<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dana\u00eb M\u00e9nard-B\u00e9langer<\/strong>, composer (Montr\u00e9al) A composer, and assistant director of the vocal ensemble K\u00f4, she recently embarked on a PhD on lullabies at the University of Montreal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ma\u00efa M\u00e9nard-B\u00e9langer<\/strong>, librettist (Montr\u00e9al) A scenographer and scriptwriter, she explores puppetry, illustration, and screenwriting, as well as craft costumes for both stage and television.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>The organizations<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Musique 3 Femme<\/strong>s (M3F), founded in 2018, is a non-profit dedicated to nurturing emerging Canadian female and nonbinary opera creators, led by artists Kristin Hoff and Jennifer Szeto.
