The opera, with libretto by Nahum Tate, was composed in 1689. There are witches and magic in the story, along with the music and dance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79315\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79315\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-79315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/Opera-Atelier-Dido-and-Aeneas-2.jpg\" alt=\"Artists of Opera Atelier in 'Dido and Aeneas' (Photo courtesy of Opera Atelier)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79315\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Artists of Opera Atelier in &#8216;Dido and Aeneas&#8217; (Photo courtesy of Opera Atelier)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>Production details<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The all-Canadian cast will be collectively making their debuts in their roles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soprano Meghan Lindsay and tenor Colin Ainsworth portray Dido and Aeneas;<\/li>\n<li>Soprano Measha Brueggergosman-Lee is the wicked Sorceress;<\/li>\n<li>Soprano Mireille Asselin plays Belinda;<\/li>\n<li>Other cast members include soprano Cynthia Akemi Smithers, mezzo soprano Danielle MacMillan, and tenor Spencer Britten making his Opera Atelier debut;<\/li>\n<li>Set and costume design by Gerard Gauci and lighting design by Kimberly Purtell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pynkoski directs the 60-minute production, with the full corps of the Artists of Atelier Ballet, and choreography by Founding Co-Artistic Director Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg C.M. Atelier Music Director David Fallis will conduct on October 20 and 22, and Opera Atelier\u2019s Assistant Music Director Christopher Bagan will make his Opera Atelier conducting debut on October 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpera Atelier\u2019s production of <em>Dido and Aeneas<\/em> restores dancing to the central role it played in its original production.
