It\u2019s the start of a season showcasing the organization\u2019s dedication to new music and sonic exploration.<\/p>\n<p>The season will present over 100 local and international artists, and incorporate partnerships with several local companies, including Tapestry Opera, Fall for Dance North, TO Live and Crow\u2019s Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur 40th anniversary is a time of reflection \u2013 where we came from really does matter \u2013 but first and foremost, it\u2019s an opportunity to re-imagine possibilities in a post-pandemic world,\u201d said <strong>Lawrence Cherney<\/strong>, Founding Artistic Director, in a media release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to build legacy for Canadian music past, present and future by creating new opportunities for an ever-greater diversity of artists. Our aim is to embrace new compositional voices as a crucial step towards building trust and engagement with an ever-broadening spectrum of communities in Toronto, in Canada, and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Season opener<\/h2>\n<p>The season opens with a program titled <em>Choral Splendour<\/em>. It will include the world premieres of <em>LEX<\/em> by <strong>Paul Frehner<\/strong>, and a film created for live orchestral performance by <strong>Michael Greyeyes<\/strong>. Renowned Estonian conductor <strong>T\u00f5nu Kaljuste<\/strong> will also lead the Soundstreams Choir 21 in <strong>Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/strong>&#8216;s masterpiece <em>Stabat Mater<\/em>. Soloists include Meghan Lindsay, soprano; Rebecca Cuddy, mezzo-soprano; Owen McCausland, tenor; Alain Coulombe, bass.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The World Premieres<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><em>LEX<\/em>: Ontario composer Paul Frehner\u2019s monumental oratorio uses text from a wide range of sources, including poetry, religious and even scientific publications, including Newton\u2019s <em>Laws of Motion<\/em>, all set to original music.<\/li>\n<li><em>Zipangu<\/em>: The film by Michael Greyeyes will screen with performances by dancer <strong>Ceinwen Gobert<\/strong> as string orchestra Ensemble Soundstreams play <strong>Claude Vivier<\/strong>&#8216;s<em> Zipangu<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Main Stage series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The main stage series includes Soundstreams\u2019 usual unique curation of diverse threads and elements.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Surface Tension, the dynamic piece for percussion quartet by Irish composer <strong>Donnecha Dennehy<\/strong>, and <strong>TorQ Percussion Quartet<\/strong> performs six world premieres by RBC Bridges Emerging Composers\u2019 Workshop.<\/li>\n<li><em>Electric Messiah<\/em> returns live and in-person this year, including the world premiere of a new interpolation <em>Body<\/em> by <strong>Lieke van der Voort<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NEXUS<\/strong> and <strong>TorQ Percussion Quartet<\/strong> perform in Steve Reich: <em>Now &amp;
