We invite you to join us in the belief that music can bond our fractured society by bringing people together to experience the finest music, whether it be from the classical canon of the past 400 years or from new artists such as <strong>Alison Russell<\/strong> who sings of hardship, perseverance and, ultimately, hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Some of the Highlights<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Here are some of the season&#8217;s highlights, incorporating a wide range of artists and works.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gala Concerts by <strong>Jan Lisiecki<\/strong> with <strong>Orpheus Chamber Orchestra<\/strong> in October playing Mozart and Haydn, and \u201cRhapsody and the Blues\u201d with <strong>Jens Lindemann<\/strong>, <strong>Jon Kimura Parker<\/strong>, and the <strong>Yamaha All Star Big Band<\/strong> in February;<\/li>\n<li>A special event to Commemorate Truth and Reconciliation Day (September 30) featuring <strong>Tomson Highway<\/strong>, <strong>Rebecca Cuddy<\/strong>, <strong>Sarain Fox<\/strong>, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>The 21C Festival is back for its biggest iteration yet&#8230;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>11 events;<\/li>\n<li>Works by <strong>Eliot Britton<\/strong> and <strong>Christos Hatzis<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jean-Michel Blais<\/strong>, <strong>Esprit Orchestra<\/strong>, <strong>Matthew Ricketts<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>A residency by the <strong>Kronos Quartet<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stewart Goodyear<\/strong> will premiere a new work, alongside three by composer <strong>Ian Cusson<\/strong> based on the medieval psychedelia of Hieronymus Bosch;<\/li>\n<li>Noted jazz composers <strong>Fred Hersch<\/strong> and <strong>Andrew McAnsch<\/strong> both showcase new works in a concert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Chamber Music and String recitals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>In their Farewell performance, the <strong>Emerson String Quartet<\/strong> will play Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Dvo\u0159\u00e1k;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Tak\u00e1cs Quartet<\/strong> with <strong>Jeremy Denk<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Benedettie Elschenbroich Grynyuk Trio<\/strong> in a program of Schubert and Tchaikovsky;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alisa Weilerstein<\/strong> re-imagining the Bach Cello Suites;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stewart Goodyear<\/strong> takes the stage with the <strong>Chineke! Orchestra<\/strong> to play works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Florence Price, along with his own Callaloo \u2013 Caribbean Suite for Piano and Orchestra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Biggest Piano Series<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The biggest piano series yet at Koerner Hall includes seven concerts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Imogen Cooper<\/strong> plays Liszt and Beethoven;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daniil Trifonov<\/strong> will play a mixed program of Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Ravel and Scriabin;<\/li>\n<li>International Chopin Piano Competition Gold Medallist <strong>Bruce Xiaoyu Liu<\/strong> plays Chopin and Liszt;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Faz\u0131l Say<\/strong> will play Couperin, Debussy, Mozart and a new work of his own;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Beatrice Rana<\/strong> will play Chopin&#8217;s Sonata No. 2 and Beethoven&#8217;s Sonata No. 29;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marc-Andr\u00e9 Hamelin<\/strong> performs Dukas, Oswald, Faur\u00e9, and a work of his own;<\/li>\n<li>Norwegian pianist <strong>Leif Ove Andsnes<\/strong> will play Dvo\u0159\u00e1k, Leo\u0161 Jan\u00e1\u010dek and a piece by Alexander Vustin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>More&#8230;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Celebrated mezzo <strong>Emily D&#8217;Angelo<\/strong> will sing works from her highly acclaimed album <em>enargeia<\/em>, including Hildegard von Bingen, Missy Mazzoli, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Hildur Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir<\/li>\n<li>Early music programs by <strong>Philippe Jaroussky with Ensemble Artaserse<\/strong> and <strong>Bach Collegium Japan<\/strong>, <strong>Masaaki Suzuki<\/strong>, and <strong>Roderick Williams<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Royal Conservatory Orchestra<\/strong> will play with a string of guest conductors, including Tania Miller and Joshua Weilerstein.;<\/li>\n<li>On the choral front, the <strong>King&#8217;s Singers<\/strong> come back to Koerner Hall for a mixed program of favourites and new works;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Music on Film Series<\/strong> at Hot Docs returns for the 11th consecutive year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are many more concerts, including jazz, pop, and global sounds.
