The JUNO Awards were presented at an in-person gala for the first time in three years on May 15, 2022 in Toronto.<\/p>\n

The annual event by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) featured expected multiple wins by pop music superstars Charlotte Cardin and The Weeknd, and four awards given in classical music categories.<\/p>\n

Classical music nominees<\/a> included high profile artists like Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin and Jan Lisiecki, and a winners list that demonstrates Canada\u2019s burgeoning talent roster, many of whom are making their mark on the international stage.<\/p>\n

After a Lincoln Center Award win in 2020, and as the one and only person granted the Leonard Bernstein Award from the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, dynamic Toronto-born mezzo-soprano Emily D\u2019Angelo has been lighting up stages across the globe. It\u2019s no surprise to find her highly acclaimed debut release<\/a> on the DG label, inspired by Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th-century abbess and polymath, and featuring other women composers, on the winners list.<\/p>\n

Solfeggio<\/em> by L\u2019Harmonie des saisons, conducted by Eric Milnes ft. H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Brunet (ATMA\/Naxos)<\/p>\n

Soprano H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Brunet is featured on this collection of baroque and classical arias she picked based on her affinity for the music. The approach paid off on this album recorded with period music specialists L\u2019Harmonie des saisons, conducted by Eric Milnes. The final track of the album gives it its name, a wordless solfeggio that showcases Brunet\u2019s warm voice.<\/p>\n
