If you had to guess which Canadian city had the highest growth rate for new musicians, what would you choose? Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal, or Halifax maybe?<\/p>\n

According to data collected in 2021 from SOCAN, Toronto holds the top spot for new music creators in Canada. In particular, the Dufferin-Dovercourt Village neighbourhood (postal code prefix M6H) located in the west side of Toronto.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s the rest of the list that perhaps holds the most insight.<\/p>\n

    Why it matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The report comes just months after the Canadian government introduced the Online Streaming Act, which aims to modernise the country’s outmoded regulations around Canadian Content, including music.<\/p>\n

    The list shows that the fastest growing centres are now located in mostly suburban areas surrounding Canada\u2019s largest cities.<\/p>\n
