The Royal Conservatory\u2019s Artist in Residence Stewart Goodyear, Angela Hewitt, and others will perform works that have been included in the RCM\u2019s latest set of piano publications.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration will take place in-person as well as via livestream on <strong>Apr. 27 at 8:30 p.m.<\/strong> at Koerner Hall.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>About the books<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <em>Celebration Series\u00ae, Sixth Edition<\/em> piano books includes volumes of piano repertoire, \u00e9tudes, music theory, and other components of the RCM&#8217;s educational program.<\/p>\n<p>The new series includes work by composers from <strong>20 different countries<\/strong>, including the work of <strong>47 Canadian composers<\/strong> and 54 American composers. Canadian composers include Vincent Ho (Calgary), Alexina Louie (Toronto), Stephen Chatman (Vancouver), and Christine Donkin (Victoria).<\/p>\n<p>As part of the RCM\u2019s mandate to support living artists, the pieces include new commissions from 73 living composers, including 32 recently composed pieces that make their debut in this series.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Performers include&#8230;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Stewart Goodyear;<\/li>\n<li>Angela Hewitt;<\/li>\n<li>Jan Lisiecki;<\/li>\n<li>International Fryderyk Chopin Competition laureate Tony Yike Yang;<\/li>\n<li>RCM Honorary Fellow Lang Lang;<\/li>\n<li>Series composer Heather Schmidt;<\/li>\n<li>Recording artist for the series Dianne Werner-Simon;<\/li>\n<li>Among others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among the works performed will be three world premieres.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The Cat and Mouse Tango<\/em> by Gary K. Thomas, performed by Stewart Goodyear;<\/li>\n<li><em>Flip Flops<\/em> by Gary K. Thomas, performed by his daughter Hope Thomas;<\/li>\n<li><em>A Moonlight Night on the Spring River<\/em>, arranged by Edward Jiang, performed by Tony Yang.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Why it\u2019s important<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The music that piano students learn from will inform their progress as they continue to develop as either performers or composers, or both.
