The nominations for the 2022 Juno Awards have been announced, with a shake up in the classical music division.<\/p>\n

The vocal\/choral category has been eliminated to create four separate awards. Three are based on the scale of the works in question, including Solo Artist, Large Ensemble, and Small Ensemble, with a fourth designated for composition.<\/p>\n

The absence of a specific category for vocal and choral pieces caused some consternation in the musical community, but a look at the list of this year\u2019s nominees includes five works that fall into that genre, including Emily D\u2019Angelo\u2019s highly acclaimed <\/a>enargeia.<\/em><\/p>\n

No surprise \u2014 Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin leads the nominations with three in two categories after a busy year of releases.<\/p>\n

At least somewhat surprising is the absence of another Quebec superstar, Charles Richard-Hamelin, and his recording of Chopin Preludes, from the solo category, although he did still garner a nomination for his release of Beethoven violin sonatas with Andrew Wan in the small ensemble slot.<\/p>\n
