He\u2019s also a proud Torontonian.<\/p>\n<p>The Toronto Film Critics Association has awarded him this year\u2019s Company 3 Clyde Gilmour Award.<\/p>\n<p>The prize includes $50,000 in services to a filmmaker of their choosing. Cronenberg will announce his designate in the days to come.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A well-deserved honour<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>David Cronenberg first gained attention for &#8220;body horror&#8221; films such as <em>Dead Ringers<\/em> and <em>The Fly<\/em>. His themes broadened in later films, such as <em>A History of Violence<\/em>, but their audacity remained. Cronenberg returns to horror this year with his 22nd film, <em>Crimes of the Future<\/em>, also starring Viggo Mortensen.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Two more honours<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Toronto Film Critics Association has also awarded the Stella Artois Jay Scott Prize for an emerging artist to Bretten Hannam.<\/li>\n<li>The Emerging Critic award goes to lawyer-turned-movie-reviewer Rachel Ho.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Toronto Film Critics Association is still holding out on announcing the big Best Canadian Film Award, which includes a $100,000, prize.
