The London Symphony Orchestra has named Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan as LSO Associate Artist for three years.<\/p>\n

An unprecedented move<\/strong><\/p>\n

The LSO has created the role to sit alongside the LSO\u2019s family of conductors. The goal is to benefit from Hannigan\u2019s distinct creative influences and develop the creative diversity of the LSO. Duties include developing new programs and making suggestions for a repertoire throughout the Season. She will also go to Europe in March 2023 with the LSO for their European tour.<\/p>\n

What they\u2019re saying<\/strong><\/p>\n

‘I am thrilled to accept this appointment, developing and performing beautiful and fascinating programmes with my colleagues at the LSO,\u201d Hannigan said. \u201cThis collaboration gives me a lot of energy and inspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlready in her performances with LSO over the last few years, she has introduced players and audiences to new works that lend themselves to her special talents, said Kathryn McDowell, Managing Director of the LSO. \u201cThis exciting exploration of new repertoire is precisely what the LSO thrives on, and the time is right to take this next step in our relationship with her.<\/p>\n

Cementing a fruitful relationship<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannigan has performed relatively often with the LSO \u2014 usually with near-unanimous rave reviews. Their relationship started with Gerald Barry\u2019s La Plus Forte<\/em> \u2013 a one-woman Opera \u2013 with the LSO in 2007 with Thomas Ad\u00e8s conducting and Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis on the piano. Things progressed when Hannigan returned clad in a schoolgirl uniform performing Ligeti\u2019s Mysteries of the Macabre<\/em><\/a> with Simon Rattle.<\/p>\n
