Williams will join the TSO\u2019s newish Music Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2018\/09\/17\/the-scoop-tso-names-42-year-old-gustavo-gimeno-as-next-music-director\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gimeno Gustavo<\/a>, who began his leadership this early this season.<br \/>\nWilliams will begin as CEO in April 2022.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What they\u2019re saying<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cOn behalf of the musicians, and the TSO\u2019s artistic community, I want to extend a very warm welcome to Mark,\u201d said <strong>Gimeno<\/strong>. \u201cI have worked with Mark for many years, and I am really thrilled that he will be leading our great orchestra.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In a statement from <strong>Williams<\/strong>, he described \u201ca palpable chemistry\u201d when first meeting with the orchestra, board, and staff members. He also said he looks forward to moving to Toronto, \u201cone of the world\u2019s greatest cities,\u201d with his husband.<\/li>\n<li>According to <strong>Cathy Beck<\/strong>, Chair of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) Board of Directors, \u201cMark\u2019s strategic acuity, in-depth producing and programming skills, and bold, creative thinking shone through during a very extensive international search.\u201d [\u2026] \u201cMark will build on our momentum and bring his extensive leadership skills to steer the TSO towards even more successes.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Born in Ohio, USA. Williams\u2019 holds a bachelor of music degree in horn performance from the <strong>Cleveland Institute of Music<\/strong> and <strong>Case Western Reserve University<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He started his career as an artist manager with <strong>Columbia Artists Management<\/strong> and later with <strong>IMG Artists<\/strong>. He has worked with Cecilia Bartoli, Alan Gilbert, Susan Graham, and Dawn Upshaw.<\/li>\n<li>Took as role as Artistic Administrator at the<strong> San Francisco Symphony<\/strong> (2009 to 2012)<\/li>\n<li>Current role as Chief Artistic and Operations Officer at <strong>The Cleveland Orchestra<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>New Dream Team?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As New York Yankee great \u2014 and American poet \u2014 Yogi Berra said: \u201cIt is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While we will need to wait and see how Williams does in his first-ever CEO role, the good news is that this provides the TSO with stability.
