{"id":73376,"date":"2021-12-16T09:57:46","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T14:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/?p=73376"},"modified":"2021-12-16T09:57:46","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T14:57:46","slug":"scoop-ontario-brings-back-capacity-limits-large-venues-outdoor-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2021\/12\/16\/scoop-ontario-brings-back-capacity-limits-large-venues-outdoor-events\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SCOOP | Ontario Brings Back Capacity Limits For Large Venues And Outdoor Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_73379\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73379\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-73379\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/omicron_arts_venue_capasity_limits_.jpg\" alt=\"Roy Thomson Hall (Photo: Jag Gundu)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73379\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roy Thomson Hall (Photo: Jag Gundu)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s back to capacity limits for audiences in Ontario, as premier Doug Ford announced in a press conference on December 15, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>With the Omicron COVID-19 variant filling hospital beds, the province of Ontario announced renewed restrictions for larger indoor venues.<\/p>\n<p>As of <strong>Saturday, December 18 at 12:01 a.m.<\/strong>, the new rules will be implemented, which include a <strong>50% limit on audiences<\/strong> at sports or entertainment venues with capacity for 1,000 people or more, and notably, outdoor gatherings as well.<\/p>\n<p>In Toronto, that will include a number of major venues, including the <strong>Scotiabank Arena<\/strong>, <strong>Roy Thomson Hall<\/strong>, the newly reopened <strong>Massey Hall<\/strong>, <strong>Koerner Hall<\/strong>,<strong> Princess of Wales Theatre<\/strong>, and <strong>Meridian Hall<\/strong>, among other arts venues.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/1001352\/all-ontarians-18-eligible-for-covid-19-booster-appointments-at-three-month-interval\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> issued by the province noted the reasons for the new measures. \u201cThis measure is being taken to <strong>reduce opportunities for close contact<\/strong> in high-risk indoor settings with large crowds and when masks are not always worn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new rules apply to specific situations, which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>concert and sports venues, racing tracks<\/li>\n<li>theatres and cinemas<\/li>\n<li>studio audiences in commercial film and television production<\/li>\n<li>museums and galleries<\/li>\n<li>aquariums, zoos and science centres<\/li>\n<li>historic sites and landmarks, botanical gardens<\/li>\n<li>gaming establishments such as casinos and bingo halls<\/li>\n<li>fairs and festivals, including rural events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>COVID Updates<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It was only in October that capacity limits were lifted, before the Omicron variant began to make its way into the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know this will be tough, but it&#8217;s an important step in ensuring we slow the spread of Omicron as we urgently accelerate boosters because, as I said earlier, it&#8217;s all hands on deck,&#8221; <strong>Premier Doug Ford<\/strong> said as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.citynews.ca\/2021\/12\/15\/capacity-limits-ontario-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news conference<\/a>. &#8220;This is a call to arms.
