Pianist Stewart Goodyear has been named The Royal Conservatory\u2019s Inaugural Artist-in-Residence.<\/p>\n

As part of his duties, Goodyear will conduct masterclasses and contribute for RCM\u2019s education programs at The Glenn Gould School and The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists.<\/p>\n

Goodyear will also be involved with the Oscar Peterson Program at the newly renamed<\/a> Oscar Peterson School of Music (formerly the Royal Conservatory School), a scholarship program offering tuition-free music instruction to underserved youth, beginning in the fall of 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Royal Conservatory plays such an important role in this country, not just in the lives of people who will make a career in music, but also in helping people to do whatever they\u2019re going to do in their life,\u201d said Goodyear in a release. \u201cThe Royal Conservatory is not only an important part of Canada, but also an important part of the music world, and the world in general. To be asked by Dr. Simon to take on such an important position is flattering, and something that I take very seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Full Circle<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Goodyear started studying at the conservatory at the age of six. Since developing an enormously successful career as a recording artist and touring soloist, he has been a frequent performer at Koerner Hall for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n

Goodyear can be seen on a program with the Pendercki String Quartet and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir on November 27<\/a>. The concert includes the world premiere of his new work, Piano Quintet.<\/p>\n

Artist-in-residence programs are designed to bring artists, academics, and curators into an institution\u2019s space. The titles may be called composer-in-residence or writer-in-residence, depending on the talent involved.<\/p>\n

Some residency programs are part of larger institutions like museums, universities, or galleries. Ensembles can be \u201censembles-in-residence,\u201d such as the University of Toronto\u2019s School of Music\u2019s \u201cVisiting Ensemble-in-Residence\u201d Theatre of Early Music.<\/p>\n
