With in-person events<\/a> on the horizon, all eyes are on Canada\u2019s performing arts groups for 2021-22 season announcements.<\/p>\n So far, Canadian Opera Company has no idea<\/a> what they\u2019re doing yet. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra \u2014\u00a0on the other hand \u2014 is reopening this November with some minor caveats<\/a>.<\/p>\n Last but not least, the National Ballet of Canada has today announced details for its 70th anniversary season.<\/p>\n After nearly two years in a pandemic holding pattern, the National Ballet season is officially opening this summer.<\/p>\n The company will premiere world premieres by Choreographic Associate Alysa Pires and newly appointed<\/a> Principal Dancer Siphesihle November. Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain<\/em> and Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Elite Syncopations<\/em> opens in March.<\/p>\n Winter includes two full-length story ballets, A Streetcar Named Desire<\/em> by John Neumeier and The Sleeping Beauty<\/em> by Rudolf Nureyev.<\/p>\n Closing the season in June will be Swan Lake<\/em>, which was initially scheduled for Kain\u2019s 50th anniversary with the company last year.<\/p>\n This is Karen Kain\u2019s year:<\/strong> 2021-22 will be the final season programmed by Karen Kain before she steps down as Artistic Director on June 30, 2021. The accolades are already rolling in. So far, Kain has her own street<\/a> and commemorative stamps<\/a>.<\/p>\n Subscriptions for the 2021\/22 season are now on sale<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n
