(Photo courtesy of Tafelmusik)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Former Toronto-based early music violinist, early music specialist, and educator C.M., O.Ont., Jeanne Lamon has died age 71 from cancer in Victoria BC, June 20, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Best known for her pioneering work with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Lamon led the early music organization to international acclaim between 1981 and 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Before moving to Victoria from Toronto, Lamon was Artistic Director of the Health Arts Society of Ontario, an organization dedicated to providing seniors in long-term care and retirement homes with quality concerts.<\/p>\n<p>Lamon leaves behind her partner Christina Mahler, former Principal Cellist of the Tafelmusik Orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJeanne was an amazing and gifted leader who greatly inspired me and many colleagues around the world,\u201d said Music Director\u00a0<strong>Elisa Citterio<\/strong>. \u201cShe remains and will always be an integral part of our wonderful organization because we are the fruit of her tireless passion and tenacity. We are heartbroken to have lost her, but the memory of her smile, laughter, and unbridled creativity will console and uplift us. Jeanne lives on in our music, and every note that Tafelmusik plays will be dedicated to her memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, Tafelmusik is missing a special light, one that shone brightly for so many years in our ensemble and organization,&#8221; said Executive Director <strong>Carol Kehoe<\/strong>. \u201cJeanne was an extraordinary individual \u2014 ahead of her time. She was a passionate musician who was totally engaged with the donors, subscribers, volunteers, and funders who supported her \u2018baby\u2019 \u2014 a baroque ensemble that grew into a world-recognized powerhouse.
