South Korean pianist Su Yeon Kim, winner of CMIM Piano 2021<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 19th annual Montreal International Music Competition has awarded South Korean pianist Su Yeon Kim first prize.<\/p>\n

Kim will receive a $30,000 scholarship from City of Montreal, a three-city tour in the US, a concert with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and an album release on the Steinway & Sons label.<\/p>\n

Kim also won the $50,000 Joseph-Rouleau Career Grant, for a grand total $180,000 in prizes.<\/p>\n

The second prize ($15,000) was awarded to Yoichiro Chiba of Japan, and the third prize ($10,000) went to French pianist Dimitri Malignan. The ICI Musique Audience Prize ($5,000) and the Montreal Bach Festival Prize ($1,500) were also awarded to Malignan.<\/p>\n

The Andr\u00e9-Bourbeau Prize for the best Canadian artist ($5,000) and the Andr\u00e9-Bachand prize for the best interpretation of a compulsory Canadian work ($2,000) went to Alice Burla, the sole Canadian pianist who made the finals.<\/p>\n

The Bita-Catelan Philanthropic Prize of $ 5,000, was awarded to the American pianist Anna Han, who did not make it to the final.<\/p>\n

All unranked finalists walk away with a $3,000 cash prize.<\/p>\n

A total of $235,000 was awarded in prizes and scholarships.<\/p>\n
