They have recognized that the original title<em> Le Mozart Noir<\/em> does not \u201cproperly [centre] the composer\u2019s achievements\u201d\u2014\u00a0and will be changing the name to <em>The Music of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The reissue will include new album artwork by Toronto painter\u00a0Gordon Shadrach\u00a0and an essay by American conductor and Bologne scholar\u00a0Marlon Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>Saint-Georges was the son of a wealthy plantation owner and his mistress, an enslaved woman on the plantation in Guadeloupe. He confronted enormous adversities around class and race throughout his life. His work fits squarely into the classical period style, and includes string quartets, orchestral works, and operas.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cbmN8lg64-E?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Polymath fencer, violin virtuoso, conductor, composer\u2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>He was first noted as a fencing champion in France. There\u2019s even a painting depicting a match between Bologne and the Chevalier d\u2019\u00c9on on display at Buckingham Palace.<\/li>\n<li>John Adams described him as \u201cthe most accomplished man in Europe in riding, shooting, fencing, dancing and music.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Mozart once stayed under the same roof as Saint-Georges in 1778 at an event in Paris hosted by Count Sickingen.
