When asked about his background, he explained people often seem surprised to hear he\u2019s black, making him want to avoid the conversation altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough my personal story and my strife with identity, I\u2019ve come to realize that this is a common theme throughout society that hasn\u2019t been fully explored: our collective and individual struggle with who we are, our identity,\u201d said Madore.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i0qnq34DdUA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI believe that, under the surface, more people than we think struggle with the notion of a \u2018conflicted\u2019 identity,\u201d Wijeratne explains. \u201cFor instance, on any given day I never feel fully eastern or fully western. I feel blessed that I am able to use my music to reconcile multiple identities in a way that often eludes me in daily life.
