The Governor General, Julie Payette, has today announced 114 new appointments to the Order of Canada. Among them are three classical musicians recognized for their contributions to Canada\u2019s cultural life.<\/p>\n

“Those who bear the order’s iconic snowflake insignia have changed our nation’s measure of success and, through the sum of their accomplishments, have helped us build a better Canada,” says a news release from the office of the Governor General.<\/p>\n

The new member list includes 8 Companions (C.C.), 21 Officers (O.C.) and 85 Members (C.M.), including 1 Honorary Member. Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a future date.<\/p>\n

The Order recognizes Canadians from all sectors of society for their outstanding achievements, dedication to their communities and service to the nation.<\/p>\n

The latest musicians to be nominated to the Order are:<\/p>\n

Christina\u00a0Petrowska Quilico<\/strong>, C.M. (Toronto, Ontario)\u2014 For her celebrated career as a classical and contemporary pianist, and for championing Canadian music.<\/p>\n

Lara\u00a0St. John<\/strong>, C.M. (London, Ontario and New York, New York, United States of America) \u2014\u00a0 For pushing the boundaries of classical interpretation as a solo violinist and for supporting diversity in the arts.<\/p>\n

Marietta\u00a0Orlov<\/strong>, C.M. (deceased<\/em>) (Toronto, Ontario) \u2014 For her lifelong contributions as a piano pedagogue and for her enduring devotion to the next generation of Canadian musicians.<\/p>\n

Menka\u00a0Nagrani<\/strong>, C.M. (Montr\u00e9al, Quebec) \u2014 For her efforts to include\u00a0people with disabilities into the performing arts, blending dance, theatre and music.<\/p>\n

Robert\u00a0Godin<\/strong>, C.M. (Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac, Quebec) \u2014\u00a0 For his research and development activities in guitar manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth\u00a0Langley<\/strong>, C.M. (Montr\u00e9al, Quebec) \u2014\u00a0 For her sustained mentorship of aspiring dancers and her lifelong devotion to the art.<\/p>\n
