\"The_Nutcracker-Cineplex\"<\/p>\n

After The National Ballet of Canada revealed the scuttling of its 2020\/21 season<\/a><\/span> amid the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this month, it was The Nutcracker<\/em> that hurt most. This is the first time since 1955 that the company will not perform this holiday classic live.<\/p>\n

But in a surprise announcement yesterday, the National Ballet has partnered with Cineplex Events to ensure that Canadians across the country will be able to enjoy the magic of The Nutcracker<\/em> this holiday season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nutcracker<\/em>\u00a0is a cherished holiday tradition for many in our community, particularly families and children, said Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet. \u201cDuring this challenging year when we are unable to perform live, I am delighted that through this partnership with Cineplex, the National Ballet can share this beautiful production with Canadians across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nutcracker<\/em> will be available to stream online on the Cineplex Store, as well as screened at 50 plus Cineplex theatres across Canada starting December 4, 2020. The archival performance filmed in 2008 from Toronto\u2019s Four Seasons Centre includes Principal Dancers\u00a0Sonia Rodriguez\u00a0and\u00a0Piotr Stanczyk\u00a0as The Sugar Plum Fairy and Peter\/The Nutcracker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to bring the magic of The Nutcracker<\/em> to the magic of the big screen, and into living rooms of Canadians across Canada,\u201d said Brad LaDouceur, Vice President of Event Cinema, Cineplex. \u201cThis partnership with The National Ballet of Canada provides a safe way to gather and celebrate one of the country\u2019s most beloved holiday traditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nutcracker\u00a0is available to stream for $29.99 on the Cineplex Store<\/a><\/span>. For those wishing to attend a screening in select theatres, tickets go on sale November 25, 2020.<\/p>\n
