The Glenn Gould Foundation has named an eclectic mix of judges for the thirteenth\u00a0Glenn Gould Prize this year.<\/p>\n

Topping off the list of 13 jury members is Grammy Award-winner\u00a0Laurie Anderson<\/strong>, who will chair the jury panel for the first time. Anderson, who was in Toronto last January<\/a><\/span> to headline the 21C-Music Festival, is best known for “O Superman”, which reached number two on the UK singles chart in 1981.<\/p>\n

The 12 other jury members include:<\/p>\n

Hilary Hahn<\/strong> (United States) \u2014 Grammy Award-winning violinist
\nRichard Reed Parry\u00a0<\/strong>(Canada) \u2014\u00a0Polaris Music Prize, Multi Juno, and Grammy Award-winning musician, producer, and core member of Arcade Fire
\nChilly Gonzales\u00a0<\/strong>(Canada) \u2014\u00a0Grammy Award-winning musician, composer and producer
\nA.R. Rahman\u00a0<\/strong>(India) \u2014\u00a0singer-songwriter, music producer and philanthropist
\nDr. Surojeet Chatterji<\/strong> (India) \u2014\u00a0pianist and music educator
\nTeju Cole<\/strong>\u00a0(Nigeria\/United States) \u2014\u00a0writer, photographer, and art historian
\nNeil Gaiman<\/strong>\u00a0(United Kingdom) \u2014\u00a0best-selling author of novels, graphic novels, comics, theatre, TV and films and winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards
\nHarry Gregson-Williams<\/strong>\u00a0(United Kingdom) \u2014\u00a0composer, conductor and producer
\nDr. Adam Greig\u00a0<\/strong>(Scotland\/India) \u2014\u00a0pianist, musicologist and educator
\nC\u00e9cile McLorin Salvant<\/strong>\u00a0(United States) \u2014\u00a0Grammy Award-winning Jazz vocalist
\nPhilippe Starck\u00a0<\/strong>(France) \u2014 designer and recipient of the Legion of Honour<\/p>\n

Due to COVID-19, the jury will meet virtually on October 14 to deliberate and select the laureate open to artists in music, theatre, writing, film, video, radio, television, recording, technology, architecture or design.<\/p>\n

The winner of the Glenn Gould Prize receives a cash award of $100,000, a Glenn Gould Prize statue by Canadian artist Ruth Abernethy, and a series of public events presented the following year.<\/p>\n

Past winners include Jessye Norman (2018), Philip Glass (2015), Robert Lepage (2013), Leonard Cohen (2011), Dr. Jos\u00e9 Antonio Abreu (2008), founder of El Sistema, Pierre Boulez (2002), Yo-Yo Ma (1999), Oscar Peterson (1993) and Lord Yehudi Menuhin (1990).<\/p>\n

The winner of the 2020 Glenn Gould Prize will be announced on Thursday, October 15, 2020<\/strong>, at\u00a0noon EDT.<\/p>\n
