Following the recent trend of drive-in events, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra has been forced to think outside the box when it comes to playing for an audience.<\/p>\n
In a new partnership with CityView Drive-In, the orchestra will present three live and in-person performances next month with giant LED screens and music to be enjoyed from the safety of your car.<\/p>\n
This unique series, which runs October 7, 16, and 17, marks the largest ensemble of TSO musicians performing together since the start of the pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to be partnering with CityView Drive-In, Toronto\u2019s first outdoor concert and entertainment venue, to bring audiences the music they love,\u201d said the TSO\u2019s Matthew Loden. \u201cOur musical offerings will appeal to long-time orchestra-music fans, and audiences who would like to explore the\u00a0orchestral experience for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The series kicks-off with a swing on October 7<\/a><\/span>, at 7:00 p.m. under the baton of Regina Symphony Orchestra Music Director Gordon Gerrard. TSO musicians will perform a program of Ragtime classics from Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, George Gershwin, and others.<\/p>\n For those looking for some more traditional fare, October 16<\/a><\/span> will feature TSO Concertmaster Jonathan Crow leading Vivaldi\u2019s The Four Seasons<\/em> and new music from rising composers Gabriela Lena Frank and Dinuk Wijeratne.<\/p>\n The series ends with ends on October 17<\/a><\/span> with a concert of music inspired by the first ladies of soul: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and Beyonc\u00e9. Musicians of the TSO will be led by TSO Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser.<\/p>\n The three concerts will feature a smaller ensemble of musicians from the Orchestra, and run approximately one hour.<\/p>\n Tickets go on sale September 21 \u2014 $80\u2013$200 per car.
