Tafelmusik has announced Italian violinist Elisa Citterio<\/a><\/span> has renewed her contract as Music Director through to the end of the 2022-23 season.<\/p>\n Contracted initially in early 2017<\/a><\/span>, Citterio has helped maintain Tafelmusik\u2019s exploration of both early and new music repertoire following co-founder Jeanne Lamon\u2019s 33-year tenure. For the past two seasons, she has made her mark with six new commissions, a unique program featuring Tchaikovsky, a new orchestral arrangement of Bach\u2019s\u00a0Goldberg Variations<\/em>,\u00a0and the creation of new multimedia programs\u00a0The Indigo Project<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Harlequin Salon<\/em>.<\/p>\n Citterio has also invited several leading artists to Toronto, including\u00a0Rinaldo Alessandrini, David Blackadder, Emi Ferguson, Vittorio Ghielmi, Roberta Invernizzi, Vanni Moretto, Masumi Nagasawa, Enrico Onofri, Suba\u00a0and\u00a0Trichy Sankaran, Doron Sherwin, and\u00a0Masaaki Suzuki.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat a joy it is to make music with my Tafelmusik colleagues, who inspire me every day,\u201d said Citterio. \u201cHere in Toronto, we have a unique opportunity to build and strengthen artistic bridges, and to create something wonderful through collaborations that cross many boundaries. I am grateful for the trust and support I\u2019ve received and look forward to sharing many beautiful musical moments in the years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n After the COVID-19 pandemic forced Tafelmusik to cut the 2019-20 season short, Tafelmusik\u2019s orchestra musicians have been active with Tafelmusik at Home<\/a><\/span>, an online series of five solo and duo performances hosted by Tafelmusik musicians from their homes.<\/p>\n \u201cWorking with Elisa is a joy,\u201d said Executive Director Carol Kehoe. \u201cNot only is she a gifted musician, she\u2019s smart, ambitious and funny.
