In the event that theatres be allowed to reopen, Atelier subscribers will be given the opportunity to attend in-person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe COVID-19 crisis has acted as a creative catalyst for Opera Atelier, providing our extraordinary artists, production and administrative teams with the opportunity to explore and create new repertoire and new means of communication,\u201d says Opera Atelier Co-Artistic Director Pynkoski. \u201cWe are truly delighted to be back, working under the health and safety guidelines as outlined by the province, to present these two ground-breaking works during our milestone 35th Anniversary Season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 35th anniversary season will centre around two productions:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.operaatelier.com\/season-and-tickets\/2020-2021-season\/something-rich-and-strange-opera-atelier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Something Rich and Strange<\/em><\/a><\/span> (October 28, 2020) and <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.operaatelier.com\/season-and-tickets\/2020-2021-season\/handel-the-resurrection-opera-atelier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Handel\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Resurrection<\/em><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(April 1, 2021).\u00a0Both\u00a0will include Artists of Atelier Ballet and\u00a0<strong>Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra<\/strong>\u00a0led by early music maven\u00a0<strong>David Fallis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Opening the year will be <strong><em>Something Rich and Strange<\/em><\/strong>, a fully-staged production starring Soprano <strong>Measha Brueggergosman<\/strong>, <strong>Mireille Asselin<\/strong>, and <strong>Cynthia Smithers<\/strong>, Tenors <strong>Colin Ainsworth<\/strong> and <strong>Christopher Enns<\/strong>, Mezzo-Soprano <strong>Danielle MacMillan<\/strong>. The program\u2019s namesake <em>Rich and Strange<\/em> is a combination of theatre music by Handel, Lully, Locke, and Purcell on the themes of dreams, visions and the supernatural. It will also include a composition for Brueggergosman by <strong>Edwin Huizinga<\/strong>, who worked with Atelier on the<em> Angel Speaks<\/em> project in 2017. The new commission will be set to text by the American author and playwright Grace Andreacchi.<\/p>\n<p>Originally scheduled for April 2020,\u00a0Handel\u2019s\u00a0Easter classic\u00a0<strong><em>The Resurrection<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0comes as promised in 2021\u00a0with\u00a0<strong>Colin Ainsworth<\/strong>,<strong> Carla Huhtanen<\/strong>, <strong>Meghan Lindsay<\/strong>, <strong>Allyson McHardy<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Douglas Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets to the livestream concerts will be announced early Fall, 2020.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><em>#LUDWIGVAN<\/em><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><em>Want more updates on classical music and opera news and reviews?
