Ensemble Made in Canada<\/strong> (EMIC) has named cellist\u00a0Trey Lee<\/a><\/span>\u00a0as a full member.<\/p>\n

Trey replaces founding member Rachel Mercer<\/strong>, who performed with the group for over 11 seasons. Mercer, who left the group in January 2020, will be focusing her time on other projects, including her role as Principal Cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning, it was clear that we share a common musical language and Trey\u2019s temperament really fits the group, said Elissa Lee. \u201cTrey also adds a new spice into the ensemble, with his fresh ideas and gorgeous lyricism, and we feel very inspired. Also on the road, touring with Trey was a real blast, and he has a real talent for finding delicious food and restaurants!\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee joined EMIC for selected Mosaique Project<\/strong> performances including a tour of the prairies in January\/February 2019, which included concerts in northern communities Snow Lake and Norway House. He also joined EMIC this year in January 2020 on their most recent performances in British Columbia.<\/p>\n

As a soloist, Trey has also performed with BBC Philharmonic, Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, Trondheim Soloists, and the chamber orchestras of London UK, Stuttgart, Munich and Romanian Radio. He was a featured artist with The IMAGINE Project with Yoko Ono, Hugh Jackman and ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the UN General Assembly Hall.<\/p>\n

Lee has studied at Juilliard, Harvard, the New England Conservatory, Madrid\u2019s Escuela Superior de M\u00fasica Reina Sofia, and the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik und Tanz in Cologne. He plays a 1703 “Comte de Gabriac” cello by Matteo Goffriller and is currently based in Berlin, Germany.<\/p>\n

EMIC\u2019s official line up is now: Elissa Lee<\/strong> (violin), Sharon Wei<\/strong> (viola), Trey Lee<\/strong> (cello) and Angela Park<\/strong> (piano).<\/p>\n

Their official debut as a new ensemble will be an online performance on July 1\/Canada Day. Details soon to be announced, here<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n
