SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) has announced Encore!<\/em>, a new program that pays members $150 per online music performance broadcast online.<\/p>\n Encore!<\/em> was launched after identifying the importance that artists receive compensation for their work, be it recording, performing live, or streaming online.<\/p>\n \u201cLike so many Canadians, SOCAN member songwriters, composers, and music publishers are facing tough times, with the loss of revenue from touring and in-person concerts,\u201d said Jennifer Brown, Interim CEO of SOCAN. \u201cMany of our members have stepped up for fans, staging online concerts to bring the public together and keep their careers moving ahead, so it\u2019s only fair that they get paid for their generous work, with our\u00a0Encore!\u00a0program.\u201d<\/p>\n The project is backed by $200,000 in funding every three months for the duration of COVID-19 lockdown period. Shares of royalties will go to all rights holders of the music performed.<\/p>\n To qualify:<\/p>\n \u2022 At least ten songs\/compositions must be performed live, or a live performance of at least 30 minutes must take place, on Facebook or Instagram between March 15, 2020 and March 7, 2021 (inclusive). \n\u2022 At least 100 people must have accessed the online event.
\n\u2022 A set list of all music performed has to be sent via SOCAN\u2019s Notification of Live Music Performance (NLMP) form at\u00a0socan.com<\/a><\/span>, with the \u201cvenue\u201d identified as Facebook or Instagram.
