Announced this morning during Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\u2019s daily briefing, there will be new funds available for artists, cultural organizations and athletes struggling to cope with the mandated closure of public events cross Canada amid the Coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of these groups were previously not eligible for assistance already announced due to the way freelance income structures worked. While full details have yet to be announced, the additional funds will be coordinated by\u00a0<\/span>Heritage Canada<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning of [COVID-19], artists have been providing us with comfort, laughter and happiness,\u201d Trudeau said. \u201cOur athletes continue to inspire us and encourage us, and make us proud. People who work in the arts, culture and sports sectors share their passion with us and allow us to dream. And these days, when we are all at home and isolated, they make us feel a little bit less alone. These are only some of the reasons why we have to be there for them as they are there for us. Therefore our government will provide $500-million to Heritage Canada to support our artists, creators and the rising stars of our sporting associations. With this investment, people will be able to receive wage support and organizations that are struggling with cash flow will have access to financing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
