With the season prematurely\u00a0cut short<\/a><\/span> due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Metropolitan Opera<\/strong> has announced that it will present At Home Gala<\/strong>, a live concert streamed online featuring some of the world’s biggest opera stars.<\/p>\n The concert will be streamed on April 25, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET<\/strong> via the Met Opera\u00a0homepage<\/a><\/span>. Listeners will be encouraged to donate using a link on the website using the performance.<\/p>\n The Details:<\/strong> Designed as a fundraiser, the concert will include 40+ artists performing from their homes and will include Ren\u00e9e Fleming, Diana Damrau, and Jonas Kaufmann. It will also include artists performing with their significant others living in social isolation: Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov; Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak; Terfel and Hannah Stone; Stephen and Yoon Kwon Costello; and Nicole Car and Etienne Dupuis.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile the Met is famous for its high-definition transmissions into cinemas, this will be a great artistic but low-tech operation,\u201d wrote Peter Gelb in a press release. \u201cWe will be providing operatic uplift to our audiences, as well as for our singers, who are eager to connect with their fans.\u201d<\/p>\n It will also include Met music director Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin performing a piano transcription of the meditation from Massenet’s\u00a0Thais<\/em>\u00a0from his home in Montreal.<\/p>\n Streaming for Dollars:<\/strong> The move is a swift pivot to help stem the\u00a0$60M loss<\/a><\/span>\u00a0due to cancelled productions they depended on to maintain operation revenue.<\/p>\n Full list of performers:<\/p>\n The program will be hosted by Gelb from his home in New York, and directed by Gary Halvorson in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n Want more updates on classical music and opera news and reviews?
