Reich will join the Nexus Percussion and TorQ Percussion Quartet for a celebration of his 85th birthday. Reich\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/entertainment\/music\/2016\/04\/15\/steve-reich-at-80-a-true-musical-event-review.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">last appeared<\/a><\/span>\u00a0in Toronto in 2016 for a sold-out show at Massey Hall. Expect this to sell-out too.<\/p>\n<p>The season also includes some partnerships, including\u00a0<em>Book of Mountains and Seas\u00a0<\/em>by Chinese composer Huang Ruo at the Royal Conservatory\u2019s 21C Festival on Jan. 22. The one-night-only concert will include life-size puppetry backed by vocal ensemble Ars Nova Copenhagen. Direction and staging is by Basil Twist.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a springtime co-production with Tapestry Opera for an outdoor performance of\u00a0<em>Dragon\u2019s Tale\u00a0<\/em>by composer Chan Ka Nin on June 17\u201320. Described as a \u201cwaterfront opera\u201d you\u2019ll hear an amalgam of music, opera, ritual, and sport.<\/p>\n<p>Soundstreams are bringing T\u00f5nu Kaljuste to Toronto on Oct. 24 to conduct Arvo P\u00e4rt&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Stabat Mater<\/em>. Soloists are Jacqueline Woodley (soprano), Andrea Ludwig (mezzo-soprano), Asitha Tennekoon (tenor), and Justin Welsh (baritone).<\/p>\n<p>The season also includes a show of force from local musicians in\u00a0<em>Shiraz<\/em>\u00a0on May 4\u20135 with works by Claude Vivier and Christopher Mayo.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be overlooked, are <em>Quiet Time<\/em> (Nov. 21) with songwriter, singer Robin Dann curating an evening of music and performance inspired by the quietest sounds in the world around us, and\u00a0<em>Electric Messiah<\/em>\u00a0(now a tradition) at the Drake on Dec 8-10.<\/p>\n<p>Subscriptions are on sale <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/soundstreams.ca\/performances\/main-stage\/subscription\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">now<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><em>#LUDWIGVAN<\/em><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><em>Want more updates on classical music and opera news and reviews?
