The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) has released details on their 2020\/2021 season, as well as a new\u00a0website<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and logo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe upcoming season marks a big milestone for the Calgary Philharmonic as it celebrates 65 years in this great city, and this amazing lineup of concerts is the result of two years of planning,\u201d said Music director Rune Bergmann.<\/p>\n

Season highlights include a Mozart showcase with pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane, Mahler and Prokofiev with pianist Nicolas Namoradze, and a benefit concert with violinist Joshua Bell.<\/p>\n

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra has also reversed course on a decision\u00a0two weeks ago<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to lay off 66 musicians and 18 administration and support staff due to the cancellation of events through May 16.<\/p>\n

The CPO has offered musicians and administrative staff the option to continue to work for the orchestra remotely form their homes on reduced hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur musicians and staff have shown incredible dedication over the past two weeks, continuing to work hard and connect with audiences online even while facing layoffs,\u201d said President and CEO Paul Dornian. \u201cWe are so relieved to be able to give them a chance to earn more than they would be making on EI during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The orchestra expects up to $2 M in lost revenues from the cancelled events.<\/p>\n
