Announced today, the Canadian Opera Company<\/strong> has cancelled all upcoming performances and events for the remainder of the 2019\/2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cGiven the recent state of emergency and continued restrictions on public gatherings, it has become clear to us that to protect our audiences, artists, and staff, the COC must make the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of our 2019\/2020 season,\u201d said COC General Director Alexander Neef in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n Cancelled events include\u00a0<\/span>Aida\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0<\/span><\/em>The Flying Dutchman<\/span><\/em><\/strong>,<\/span><\/em> which were scheduled to run through May 16, 2020. All\u00a0remaining performances in the <\/span>Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre<\/span><\/strong>, and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>fundraising events<\/span>\u00a0Operanation\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>and the\u00a0<\/span>Fine Wine Auction <\/span><\/strong>have also been cancelled.<\/p>\n \u201cThis global crisis has made it clear how much we all must rely on each other for support especially \u2014 during this time of social distancing,\u201d. \u201cAs we navigate this situation, I cannot express how grateful I am that the COC has such a dedicated and passionate community. In this unprecedented moment, we need your support and investment more than ever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ticket holders are being\u00a0<\/span>offered options<\/span><\/a> including refunds, donations, credit, or the possibility of using tickets for future events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The COC has closed their offices, and staff are working remotely from their homes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Members of the\u00a0<\/span>COC Ensemble Studio<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0have moved training remotely, including a virtual roundtable with opera cast members.<\/span><\/p>\n The COC is currently looking at ways to maintain its connection with opera lovers in Toronto, including #OperaAtHome<\/strong>, a digital initiative shared by COC artists from their homes.
