{"id":67616,"date":"2020-03-25T16:20:49","date_gmt":"2020-03-25T20:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/?p=67616"},"modified":"2020-03-25T18:23:46","modified_gmt":"2020-03-25T22:23:46","slug":"scoop-toronto-symphony-shutters-another-month-concerts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2020\/03\/25\/scoop-toronto-symphony-shutters-another-month-concerts\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SCOOP | Toronto Symphony Shutters Another Month Of Concerts"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_67617\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67617\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67617\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/Matthew_Loden-TSO.jpg\" alt=\"TSO CEO Matthew Loden\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/Matthew_Loden-TSO.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/Matthew_Loden-TSO-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/Matthew_Loden-TSO-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/Matthew_Loden-TSO-768x402.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-67617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Toronto Symphony Orchestra CEO Matthew Loden (Photo courtesy of the TSO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With government-mandated rules regarding the COVOD-19 pandemic evolving daily, event organisers have been left scrambling to make decisions with very little data and few assurances.<\/p>\n<p>While most orchestras have made the hard choice to cut their losses and cancel concerts through to the end of the season, the\u00a0<strong>Toronto Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>\u00a0has opted to take a wait and see approach.<\/p>\n<p>The TSO had elected to commit to only cancelling events through <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2020\/03\/13\/the-scoop-torontos-arts-institutions-respond-to-covid-19-pandemic-with-wave-of-cancellations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March<\/a><\/span>, but today have confirmed that all events through April will also be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach to planning is a hopeful but realistic one,\u201d said\u00a0TSO CEO <strong>Matthew Loden<\/strong>. \u201cWe will only cancel performances when it becomes clear that the current status of the COVID-19 situation would not make performances possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Events affected include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 April 1, 2, 4 &amp; 5, 2020 (Lisiecki Plays Beethoven\u2019s Emperor)<br \/>\n\u2022 April 8, 9 &amp; 11, 2020 (Gimeno, Yuja Wang &amp; Brahms)<br \/>\n\u2022 April 14 &amp; 15, 2020 (Classic Broadway: Rodgers &amp; Hammerstein)<br \/>\n\u2022 April 26, 2020 (Symphonic Fairy Tales)<br \/>\n\u2022 April 29, May 1 &amp; 2, 2020 (Oundjian Conducts Mahler)<br \/>\n\u2022 May 3, 2020 (TSYO 46th Season Finale)<\/p>\n<p>The TSO will defer cancelling remaining May and June programming until later in April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our fervent hope to bring the live orchestral experience back to our audiences as soon as possible,\u201d Loden said. \u201cIn the absence of live performances, I am incredibly proud of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2020\/03\/22\/the-scoop-toronto-symphony-plays-aaron-coplands-appalachian-spring-from-their-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent video<\/a><\/span> musical offerings by our exceptionally talented musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The TSO is offering ticket holders the choice of refunds, exchanging tickets for an upcoming performance in the current season, gift certificates, or donating the value of the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am saddened to miss the opportunity to be with all my friends at the TSO.
