The Montr\u00e9al Symphony Orchestra announced yesterday<\/a><\/span> that they will be broadcasting weekly concerts online every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the COVID-19 concert cancellation period.<\/p>\n

The first broadcast started Wednesday night, and featured Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 7 in B minor, “Song of the night\u201d<\/em>. The concert was a concert recorded on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Austria, an OSM \/ Medici.tv co-production.<\/p>\n

On Friday, March 20 at 12:00 p.m. (broadcast until March 23 at 8:00 p.m.) music lovers will be able to see and hear Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, B. 178, “Du Nouveau Monde”<\/em> with the OSM under the baton of Kent Nagano. This concert was originally recorded back on May 31, 2017 at the Maison symphonique de Montr\u00e9al, an OSM \/ Prodcan co-production for Medici.tv.<\/p>\n

Concerts for the following weeks will be announced as they become available.<\/p>\n

This is great news for music lovers looking to find solace in music during this time of social isolation.<\/p>\n

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra have yet to announce any plans for presenting concerts online, but this seems like a ripe opportunity for them; especially after the Matthew Loden\u2019s Op-Ed in The Globe & Mail<\/em><\/a><\/span> last week.<\/p>\n
