This will be the first fully staged\u00a0Parsifal in COC history.<\/p>\n<p>The COC is also launching\u00a0<strong>Vox<\/strong>, a new membership program tailored to those under 40 seeking exclusive post-performance parties.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020-21 season marks General Director\u00a0<strong>Alexander Neef<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a013th and final season with the COC before leaving for the Paris Opera next year. His kid-friendly urban\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><em><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2020\/02\/07\/scrutiny-cocs-hansel-gretel-urban-retelling-iconic-fairy-tale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hansel and Gretel\u00a0<\/a><\/em><\/span>is running now.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also Janacek\u2019s\u00a0<em><strong>Katya Kabanova<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>(February 6), which hasn\u2019t been seen in Toronto since the nearly 1990s. The new production is by theatre director <strong>David Alden<\/strong>, so you can expect some tension on stage. It will include American soprano Amanda Majeski in her COC debut.<\/p>\n<p>Verdi\u2019s crowd-pleasing<em>\u00a0<strong>La Traviata<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>returns on April 17 with soprano superstar<strong>\u00a0Sondra Radvanovsky<\/strong>\u00a0singing Violetta. Canadian baritone\u00a0<strong>James Westman\u00a0<\/strong>will play Baron Duphol.<\/p>\n<p>Ending out the season is a spring-time production of\u00a0<strong><em>Orfeo ed Euridice<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by Gluck starting May 1, and will star\u00a0<strong>Iestyn Davies<\/strong>\u00a0for his COC debut and Anna-Sophie Neher as Euridice.\u00a0<strong>Neher<\/strong>\u00a0has previously appeared in a number of COC productions, including <em>Rusalka<\/em>\u00a0in 2019 and the world premiere of Rufus Wainwright\u2019s<em>\u00a0Hadrian<\/em>\u00a0in 2018<\/p>\n<p>Subscriptions are on sale now at <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coc.ca<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><em>#LUDWIGVAN<\/em><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\"><em>Want more updates on classical music and opera news and reviews?
