Time flies when you\u2019re having fun.<\/p>\n<p>Opera Atelier (OA) announced its 35th anniversary season on Monday at an event held at Toronto\u2019s St. Lawrence Hall.<\/p>\n<p>OA will open with a production of Mozart\u2019s<em>\u00a0Magic Flute\u00a0<\/em>on October 22\u2013November 1, 2020, at the Elgin Theatre. Set design is by Gerard Gauci, and lighting design by Michelle Ramsay.<\/p>\n<p>On February 20\u201327, 2021, OA return with a double bill of\u00a0<em>The Angel Speak<\/em>s\u00a0with Purcell\u2019s\u00a0<em>Dido and Aeneas<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Backed by Toronto Children\u2019s Chorus, Dido will be sung by Meghan Lindsay, Christopher Enns will play Aeneas, Mireille Asselin sings Belinda, Allyson McHardy plays the Sorceress, and Colin Ainsworth is cast as the Sailor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems only fitting that Dido and Aeneas be included in our 35th Anniversary,\u201d says Pynkoski. \u201cIt was the first fully-staged opera undertaken by Opera Atelier \u2014 35 years ago in the lecture hall of the Royal Ontario Museum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Angel Speaks<\/em>\u00a0will include excerpts from their commission, by Toronto\u2019s intrepid violinist Edwin Huizinga. Opera Atelier\u2019s Co-Artistic Directors Pynkoski and Lajeunesse Zingg have been named Officers of the Order of Arts and Letters (l\u2019Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) by the Government of France.
