The Canadian music industry gets ready to celebrate its own in Saskatoon with the 2020 JUNO Award Nominations announced today.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 2020 JUNO Award Nominations<\/strong> have been announced today, flooding social media with hopefuls expressing their appreciation for making the cut.<\/p>\n

Spanning Classical\u2019s four categories, the biggest story is the Montreal Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>\u2019s two nominations in the Classical Album of the year\/large ensemble category for Chopin: Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 with Charles Richard-Hamelin<\/strong>, and The John Adams Album. Jan Lisiecki<\/strong> with Academy of St. Martin<\/strong> in the Fields<\/strong>, National Arts Centre Orchestra,<\/strong> and Orchestre M\u00e9tropolitain de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> with Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin <\/strong>are also nominated.<\/p>\n

The Solo\/Chamber classical album of year nominees\u00a0includes an eclectic list of both familiar\u00a0names and rising young talent with James Ehnes<\/strong>,\u00a0Marina Thibeault & Marie-\u00c8ve Scarfone<\/strong>,\u00a0harpist Angela Schwarzkopf<\/strong> and Ensemble Paramirabo<\/strong>, as well as Montreal mainstays Quatuor Molinari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following last year’s nearly all-female dominated classical music composition category, the names remain oddly familiar: Ana Sokolovi\u0107 <\/strong>(last year’s winner), Bekah Simms <\/strong>and Vincent Ho <\/strong>(both nominated last year). The only two composers new to the category are Jared Miller<\/strong>, and Rose Bolton,<\/strong>\u00a0each earning nods.<\/p>\n

In the vocal category, the competition is particularly fierce with a mix of strong choirs and soloists: Chor Leoni Men’s Choir<\/strong>, Ottawa Bach Choir<\/strong>, Gerald Finley<\/strong>, Peter Barrett<\/strong>, Martha Guth<\/strong>, Allyson McHardy<\/strong>, Helen Becqu\u00e9<\/strong>, and Philippe Sly<\/strong> with Le Chimera Project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
