Christmas came a little early for classical music lovers this year when Deutsche Welle (DW) launched a dedicated YouTube channel on December 4, 2019. DW Classical Music<\/a> <\/span>was initiated to coincide with the beginning of celebrations for Ludwig van Beethoven\u2019s 250th birthday this month.<\/p>\n

Videos are uploaded daily, and it\u2019s no surprise that the majority of the content so far focuses on Beethoven. The first two movements of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, op. 67<\/em>, have been uploaded so far, with Estonian conductor Paavo J\u00e4rvi<\/strong> conducting the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen<\/strong>, as recorded in the Beethovenhalle Bonn in 2009. J\u00e4rvi was named Conductor of the Year 2019 by Opus Klassik<\/a><\/span>, a leading German classical music awards organization.<\/p>\n

Jukka-Pekka Saraste<\/strong> conducts the Philharmonia Z\u00fcrich<\/strong> for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F major op. 68, the “Pastoral”<\/em> in a performance from the Beethovenfest 2019 in Bonn in another video. The fourth concert video posted so far features Greek-Russian conductor Teodor Currentzis<\/strong>\u2019 new interpretation of Verdi\u2019s Requiem<\/em>, with the MusicAeterna<\/strong> orchestra and a chorus.<\/p>\n
