Art of Time Ensemble with\u00a0singer-songwriters\u00a0Sarah\u00a0Slean and\u00a0John Southworth \u2014\u00a0July 25, 2019, 7:30 pm at Koerner Hall.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

To mark its twentieth season, Art of Time Ensemble revive one of its\u202f<\/span>favourite<\/span>\u202fand most\u202fhighly-praised\u202fprograms featuring tributes to Glenn Gould and Lou Reed.\u00a0<\/span>Singer-songwriter<\/span>\u00a0Sarah\u202f<\/span>Slean<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>join<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0them for this<\/span>\u00a0cross-genre<\/span>\u00a0TSM Festival event.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Mahler:\u00a0<\/span>Das Lied von der\u00a0Erde\u00a0<\/span><\/i>(arr. Schoenberg<\/span>\/Riehn<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mozart adopted the quasi-Middle Eastern or \u201cTurkish\u201d style that was popular in his day. <\/span>In\u202f<\/span>Das Lied von der\u202f<\/span><\/i>Erde<\/span><\/i>, Mahler\u2019s symphony for voices and instruments, he set German translations of wise, insightful Chinese poems that date back to the\u202feighth century. Together, the words and music address, in soul-stirring fashion, some of the most poignant of all philosophical ideas. Among them are the meanings of life, love, and death, the searing reality of loneliness, and the eternal mystery of reality versus illusion.<\/span><\/p>\n
