Book of My Shames<\/em> is a one-man show by Canadian tenor Isaiah Bell, whom I interviewed <\/a>in LvT when he sang Antinous in COC\u2019s Hadrian<\/em>. He explains: \u201c(This show is) part confessional comedy, part opera s\u00e9ance, part love letter to lost innocence. I\u2019m a good and happy modern gay, thanks very much: sufficiently erudite, reasonably camp, ambitious, polite. But there\u2019s this other me that\u2019s at odds with all that; this tender part that has been left behind in the dark. Shame maintains the gap between us. While Luminato <\/em>(June 7-23) has move away from hardcore classical music programming in recent years, it\u2019s decidedly a premiere summer festival for the adventurous audience member. On the eve before official opening is this show \u2014 \u201cKIRA celebrates humanity as one village, and its sacred bond to Mother Nature in this evocative work of dance, live percussion and chants by renowned Guinean artist Fara Tolno.\u201d\u00a0 | Details<\/a><\/p>\n

Saturday 8<\/span><\/h3>\n

Kindred Spirits Orchestra<\/strong> | Schnittke and Sch\u00f6nberg. 8 p.m. Cornell Recital Hall, 3201 Bur Oak Avenue, Markham. $20<\/p>\n

As part of the Markham Contemporary Music Festival, Kindred Spirits Orchestra (Kristian Alexander, conductor) performs Schnittke\u2019s Concerto for piano and strings,<\/em> and Sch\u00f6nberg\u2019s Kammersymphonie Op. 9<\/em>. Antonia deWolf is the pianist. This concert also features an audio-visual presentation on the lives of these two composers. | Details<\/a><\/p>\n
