The Silver Ticket Award and the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award will also be presented.

New this year, the Dora Mavor Moore Awards for the 2018-19 season will become the first professional theatre, dance and opera awards show in Canada to be entirely gender inclusive. The award categories for this year are gender neutral, notably applicable to the Outstanding Performance categories.

The big news for classical music lovers is that Opera has been granted its own stand-alone division, along with Musical Theatre, and Touring.

In the Opera Division, the COC retakes its top spot this year with a total of 33 nominations that incorporate six different productions. the COC’s acclaimed presentation of the English National Opera production of Verdi’s Otello leads the way in the number of nominations with a total of eight. Surprisingly, Tapestry Opera clocks in for a single nomination for Outstanding New Opera award for writer Julie Tepperman and composer Chris Thornborrow for Hook Up, a co-production with Theatre Passe Muraille. Soulpepper Theatre garnered 14 nominations in the General Theatre Division, with The Musical Stage Company and Young People’s Theatre in a tie in the Musical Theatre Division with 14 nominations apiece.
