The Edison Singers will feature three concerts a year, a possible tour, recordings, and will be conducted by Noel Edison.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been just over a year since conductor Noel Edison<\/a> was dismissed over\u00a0allegations made\u00a0during an\u00a0extensive investigation, which included multiple accounts of misconduct involving Edison towards members of the Mendelssohn Choir, the Elora Singers, as well as others.<\/p>\n

Allegations included displays of public drunkenness, acts causing embarrassment or humiliation of choir members, inquiries about the sex lives of choir members, and\u00a0an instance of a choir\u00a0member being assaulted.<\/p>\n

Since being fired, Edison has maintained his innocence<\/a>, characterizing his actions as \u201cmisconstrued\u201d. While no criminal charges have been filed, he offered an apology to those who he has inadvertently made to feel uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

Following his dismissal<\/a> at The Elora Festival Singers, The Elora Festival, and the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Elora, Edison stepped down<\/a> as artistic director of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.<\/p>\n

In July 2018, The Record<\/a> reported a family member of an elderly parishioner filed an application in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to remove Edison in his role as dual power of attorney.<\/p>\n

Since then, Edison has maintained a fairly low profile. That is, until now.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Edison launched The Edison Singers<\/a>, a new professional choir that aims to\u00a0present three concerts (nine performances) in the southern Ontario area per year. The choir’s Executive Director is Esther Farrell, a former manager of the Elora Singers.<\/p>\n

The Toronto-based choir will present themed concerts from a wide range of repertoire, from early music to world premieres. They also plan to release two recordings each year, and possibly tour.<\/p>\n

On Friday, March 15, the choir’s Board of Directors put a call out for experienced singers to audition on dates scheduled between\u00a0March and April for The Edison Singers.<\/p>\n

According to the choir\u2019s website<\/a>, which was registered on December 5, 2018, they are looking for singers with \u201cstrong musicianship\u00a0skills, professional vocal training, excellent sight-reading skills, and previous choral experience are a must.”<\/p>\n

The choir has launched a Facebook Page<\/a>, which at the time of publishing, has 51 followers.<\/p>\n
