Toronto’s award-winning Gryphon Trio will step as \u201cdesignate\u201d Directors of the Banff Centre classical music programs in 2019, and take on the leadership of the program for the summer of 2020.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity has announced today that the Gryphon Trio, have been appointed Directors Designate of the classical music summer program at the Banff Centre \u2014\u00a0 Canada’s largest post-graduate arts training institute.<\/p>\n

Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, the appointment comes as a homecoming for the Toronto-based Gryphon Trio, where members Annalee Patipatanakoon (violin), Roman Borys (cello), and James Parker (piano), first met as students over 30 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanff Centre is a cornerstone of our careers,\u201d said\u00a0Roman Borys in a press release statement. \u201cThe Banff Centre provided the inspiration and support that we needed to realize our most ambitious projects. This appointment inspires us to conceive programs that nurture vision, fuel passion, and allow classical music program\u00a0participants to build on the strengths of the past with the skills and perspectives required to engage audiences in the future. […] Annalee, Jamie, and I are now very excited to pay it forward.”<\/p>\n

In a statement from Janice Price,\u00a0President and CEO of Banff Centre, she described the trio as a \u201cCanadian success story\u201d [\u2026] \u201cWe are excited to see what they will achieve at Banff Centre.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Banff Centre has attracted over 75,000 artists since 1933, and currently hosts nearly 4,000 artists annually. Besides providing a haven for artists towards fostering creativity and creative innovation, they also present more than 400 events as well as courses in multi-disciplinary arts and leadership training.<\/p>\n

Beginning in 2019-20, the Gryphon Trio will take over from Co-Artistic Directors Claire Chase<\/a> and Steven Schick, who have lead the program for the past three seasons.\u00a0The Banff Centre has stated that they are committed to\u00a0maintaining the EQ: Evolution of the String Quartet, a program originally started by Chase and Schick during their\u00a0tenure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
