The Canadian music industry gets ready to celebrate its own in London Ontario with the 2019 JUNO Award Nominations announced today.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 2019 JUNO Award Nominations have been announced today, with Toronto’s\u00a0Gryphon Trio <\/strong>heading the list of 2019 Classical Music Juno Award nominees over two categories as the music industry gets ready to celebrate its own at the awards ceremony scheduled for March 17.<\/p>\n

The Solo\/Chamber classical album of year nominees\u00a0includes an eclectic list of both familiar\u00a0names and rising young talent with Ottawa’s\u00a0Angela Hewitt <\/strong>(also named\u00a0in 2018),\u00a0Andrew Wan<\/strong> & Charles Richard-Hamelin, <\/strong><\/b>violinist Blake Pouliot <\/strong><\/b>(who landed the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto’s 2018 Career Development Award) and pianist Hsin-I Huang<\/strong><\/b>, as well as Toronto’s\u00a0Gryphon Trio <\/strong>(nominated for two awards),\u00a0<\/b>and Montr\u00e9al piano virtuoso\u00a0Marc-Andr\u00e9 Hamelin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You could call it a big year for women in the classical music composition category which includes composers\u00a0Ana Sokolovi\u0107,\u00a0Bekah Simms,\u00a0Cassandra Miller<\/strong>, and Nicole Liz\u00e9e<\/strong>. Composer Vincent Ho<\/strong> returns for a second chance after last years nomination for his Arctic Symphony <\/em>commissioned by the Winnipeg\u00a0Symphony Orchestra in 2010 in the Classical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble category.<\/p>\n

In the vocal category, there is a mix of choirs and soloists, with\u00a0Choeur de l\u2019Orchestre Symphonique de Montr\u00e9al, <\/strong>and the Elmer Iseler Singers<\/strong>, as well as sopranos:\u00a0Barbara Hannigan,\u00a0<\/strong>Joyce El-Khoury, <\/strong>and\u00a0Miriam Khalil <\/strong>appearing on Against the Grain Theatre’s debut record on their new label.<\/p>\n

In the large ensemble category, the\u00a0Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, <\/strong>National Arts Centre Orchestra <\/strong>are all nominated alongside\u00a0James Ehnes <\/strong>and\u00a0Louis Lortie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2018 Polaris Prize winner\u00a0Jeremy Dutcher<\/a> was also nominated for\u00a0Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa<\/em> in the\u00a0 Indigenous Music Album of the Year category.<\/p>\n
