{"id":57538,"date":"2018-12-13T10:51:18","date_gmt":"2018-12-13T15:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/?p=57538"},"modified":"2018-12-13T10:51:18","modified_gmt":"2018-12-13T15:51:18","slug":"the-scoop-coc-welcomes-five-young-musicians-to-2019-orchestra-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2018\/12\/13\/the-scoop-coc-welcomes-five-young-musicians-to-2019-orchestra-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SCOOP | COC Welcomes Five Young Musicians To 2019 Orchestra Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-57541\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/12\/2019-COC-Orchestra-Academy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/12\/2019-COC-Orchestra-Academy.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/12\/2019-COC-Orchestra-Academy-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/12\/2019-COC-Orchestra-Academy-768x399.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now in its 6th year, the Canadian Opera Company (COC) Orchestra Academy offers an important training program for student musicians looking to gain experience in a professional opera orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>Between January 6 \u2013 26, 2019),<b>\u00a0<\/b>the COC will offer five new students to experience first-hand how a performance comes together.<\/p>\n<p>Orchestra Academy are: violinists <strong>Joella Pinto<\/strong> (Toronto) and <strong>Gloria Yip<\/strong> (Toronto), violist <strong>Carolyn Farnand<\/strong> (Toronto), and cellists <strong>Erin Patterson<\/strong> (Montr\u00e9al) and <strong>Allison Rich<\/strong> (Toronto).<\/p>\n<p>Participants were selected from a pool of candidates chosen by their respective institutions, following auditions held in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe COC Orchestra Academy is an intensive training program unlike any other in Canada,\u201d says COC Music Director Johannes Debus in a press release statement. \u201cThis comprehensive approach is an invaluable learning experience for any young opera professional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each of the students\u00a0will be paired with\u00a0<b>Jayne Maddison<\/b>, first violin; Principal Second Violin <b>Paul Zevenhuizen<\/b>, second violin; <b>Sheila Jaff\u00e9<\/b>, viola; and Assistant Principal Cello <b>Paul Widner<\/b> and Principal Bass <b>Tony Flynt<\/b>, cellos. The <b>COC Orchestra<\/b> is the oldest opera orchestra in Canada, and has received worldwide acclaim for its musical versatility and range of expression. Created in 1977, the orchestra has a permanent membership of more than 50 instrumentalists.<\/p>\n<p>Students will learn how to prepare and rehearse scores, receive one-on-one mentorship from members of the COC Orchestra and COC creative staff, and performance opportunities in COC\u2019s production of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/event\/canadian-opera-company-elektra\/2019-01-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">R.
