The tickets go on sale Sept. 4 to the general public. Met Opera members and Cineplex Scene club members get the first picks, on Aug. 22.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The season begins with a new production of an old chestnut, <em>L&#8217;Elisir d&#8217;amore<\/em>, on Oct. 13, starring Anna Netrebko and Matthew Polenzani. Maurizio Benini conducts.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>October 27, 2012 \u2013 <em>Otello<\/em> (Encores: November 24 and December 3, 2012)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Verdi\u2019s Shakespearean masterpiece returns to the Met with Johan Botha in the title role opposite the acclaimed Desdemona of star soprano Ren\u00e9e Fleming. Semyon Bychkov conducts.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>November 10, 2012 \u2013 <em>The Tempest<\/em> (Encore: January 12, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Composer Thomas Ad\u00e8s conducts the Metropolitan Opera premiere of his 2004 work, which has been widely praised as a modern masterpiece. Director Robert Lepage recreates the interior of 18th-century La Scala, including the hidden workings underneath the stage, where Prospero, the banished Duke of Milan, practices his otherworldly arts. The magnetic baritone Simon Keenlyside stars as Prospero, a role he has sung to great acclaim in London.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>December 1, 2012 \u2013 <em>La Clemenza di Tito <\/em>(Encores: January 21 and 26, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The virtuosic Elina Garanca sings Sesto in Mozart\u2019s drama set in ancient Rome. Giuseppe Filianoti is the noble Tito and Barbara Frittoli is Vitellia, in this handsome revival of one of the composer\u2019s final masterpieces. Harry Bicket conducts.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>December 8, 2012 &#8211; <em>Un Ballo in Maschera <\/em>(Encores: February 9 and 11, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Director David Alden\u2019s dreamlike setting provides a compelling backdrop for this dramatic story of jealousy and vengeance. Marcelo \u00c1lvarez stars as the conflicted king; Sondra Radvanovsky is Amelia, the object of his secret passion; and Dmitri Hvorostovsky is her suspicious husband. Kathleen Kim is the page Oscar, and Stephanie Blythe sings the role of the fortune-teller Ulrica. Fabio Luisi conducts.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>January 5, 2013 &#8211; <em>Les Troyens <\/em>(Encore: March 9, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Met offers a rare opportunity to witness Berlioz\u2019s vast epic, last performed at the Met in 2003. Deborah Voigt, Susan Graham, Marcello Giordani, and Dwayne Croft lead the starry cast, portraying characters from the Trojan War. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi marshals the large-scale musical forces.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>January 19, 2013 \u2013 <em>Maria Stuarda <\/em>(Encores: March 18 and 23, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, one of the world\u2019s most exciting singers, takes on the virtuosic bel canto role of the doomed Mary, Queen of Scots. Director David McVicar turns to the second opera of Donizetti\u2019s Tudor trilogy, which explores regal characters at fateful moments of their lives. Elza van den Heever sings Elizabeth I, and Maurizio Benini conducts.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>February 16, 2013 \u2013 <em>Rigoletto<\/em> (Encores: April 6, 8 and 24, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Director Michael Mayer has placed his new production of Verdi\u2019s towering tragedy in Las Vegas in 1960. In this production, inspired by the antics of the Rat Pack, Piotr Beczala is the womanizing Duke of Mantua, \u017deljko Lucic is his tragic sidekick, Rigoletto, and Diana Damrau is Rigoletto&#8217;s daughter, Gilda.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>March 2, 2013 \u2013 <em>Parsifal<\/em> (Encore: April 20, 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jonas Kaufmann stars in the title role of the innocent who finds wisdom in Fran\u00e7ois Girard&#8217;s new vision for Wagner&#8217;s final masterpiece. His fellow Wagnerian luminaries include Katarina Dalayman as the mysterious Kundry, Peter Mattei as the ailing Amfortas, Evgeny Nikitin as the wicked Klingsor, and Ren\u00e9 Pape as the noble knight Gurnemanz.
