The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity has announced they have hired Nathan Medd, as Managing Director of Performing Arts, effective August 27, 2018.<\/p>\n

The role is among the most important at the Banff Centre, and includes the oversight of all educational programs and residencies in Theatre, Dance, Opera, Classical Music, Jazz, and Contemporary Music.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanff Centre is an exciting place to support the performing arts for the next phase of my career,\u201d\u00a0commented\u00a0Medd.\u00a0\u201cSo many companies I have worked with over the years have created extraordinary works at Banff Centre that have toured Canada and the world. I\u2019m very grateful for the chance to help the artistic faculty and visiting artists to do their very best work, and to help one of Canada\u2019s most enduring arts organizations thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Medd comes to Banff after spending five years with the National Arts Centre in Ottawa as Managing Director, English Theatre, where we oversaw four seasons of programming. He was also instrumental in developing the Department of Indigenous Theatre at the NAC, which is opening in 2019.<\/p>\n

Originally from Vancouver Island, Meed studied theatre at the University of Victoria, and is currently studying at Harvard University in Management. He co-founded the Metro Studio in Victoria, and Vancouver\u2019s Progress Lab 1422 which is home to Neworld Theatre, Boca del Lupo, and Electric Company.<\/p>\n

Described as \u201cone of the country\u2019s brightest stars in cultural management\u201d, he has also worked with Intrepid Theatre (producers of the Victoria Fringe Festival, Uno Festival of Solo Performance, and OUTstages Queer Theatre Festival), the Belfry Theatre, and the BC Arts Council, where he served as a program officer for festivals and theatre.<\/p>\n

\u201cNathan has worked with some of the greatest artists and arts administrators in Canada\u2026\u201d said\u00a0Janice Price,\u00a0President and CEO of Banff Centre.\u00a0 \u201cWe are so pleased that Nathan is joining the Banff Centre team during this exciting time.\u201d<\/p>\n
