Three concerts in particular promise some exceptional musicmaking.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s Cecilia String Quartet teams up with young pianist Georgy Tchaidze, winner of the 2009 Honens International Piano Competition, in a celebration of oxblood wine-infused music at Walter Hall on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The Cecilias released <a href=\"http:\/\/musicaltoronto.org\/2012\/03\/28\/cd-review-cecilia-string-quartets-debut-dvorak-album-is-pure-joy-in-a-jewel-case\/\" target=\"_blank\">a wonderful all-Dvor\u00e1k album<\/a> earlier this year. &#8220;Violinists Min-Jeong Koh and Sarah Nematallah, violist Caitlin Boyle and cellist Rachel Desoer achieve that magical balance of poise and passion, dynamic adventure and internal balance,&#8221; I wrote about the results, which were recorded at Koerner Hall.<\/p>\n<p>They present Dvor\u00e1k&#8217;s sweet <em>Cypresses<\/em> alongside Leos Jan\u00e1cek&#8217;s <em>String Quartet No. 1<\/em>, the one inspired by <em>The Kreutzer Sonata<\/em>, a novella by Leo Tolstoy that was, in turn, inspired by Beethoven&#8217;s work for violin and piano.<br \/>\nTchaidze enters the sonic picture in a performance of Hungarian composer Ern\u00f6 Dohn\u00e1nyi&#8217;s <em>Piano Quintet No. 1<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a programme of emotions earnestly laid out on sleeves, performed by up-and-comers who have become known for their engaging interpretations. The Cecilias and Tchaidze have played together before:<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RYbd8Byvv8Q?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>On Thursday and Friday, the Nash Ensemble, who also arrive bearing a<a href=\"http:\/\/musicaltoronto.org\/2012\/05\/15\/cd-reviews-nash-ensemble-and-angela-hewitt-offer-two-different-takes-on-robert-schumann\/\" target=\"_blank\"> very fine new all-Schumann album<\/a>, will show us what has made them the U.K.&#8217;s favourite chamber group.<\/p>\n<p>On the first night, at Koerner Hall, they team up in an all-English programme with Canadian tenor Colin Ainsworth, whose busy international career has kept him away from Toronto for much of the past couple of seasons. Bach. This is music so carefully and lovingly shaped, it feels as if she is able to turn Bach&#8217;s counterpoint into glistening, wet clay. Whether or not you like your Bach sounding like this, its a remarkable experience. It&#8217;s a great opportunity to hear this impressive professional choir in action, as well as experience the (sometimes superficial) charms of Whitacre&#8217;s work.
